Voice Over
brief

A good brief
for your voice over project

Spend a couple of minutes writing a brief before you send us your video for language versioning. For the more details we know about your requirements, the better we can fulfill them.
A video usually consists of sound and images, so when you're planning the versioning of a video, it's important that you keep both these elements in mind.

What we'd like to know before we start making new language versions of your video, is:

What exactly are we going to versionise in different languages?

Do you want the sound, i.e. the speech to be translated and implemented again as speech in the local language?
Or should the existing version be kept, but with the addition of local subtitles?

And what about any text on images and graphics?
Should these elements also be versionised?

Format and speaker requirements?

The format
Which format is the video in and which format do you want it delivered in? The same format or different types of formats? In this context, it's also important to consider where the video is going to be published.

Manuscripts with time codes
Manuscripts with time codes need to be used in conjunction with both speaking and subtitles. Do you already have a manuscript with time codes? Or is this something you'd like us to help you prepare?

Time in Time out  Speaker  Transcription  Translation
 0001  00:00:00:00  00:00:08:08
 0002  00:00:08:10  00:00:13:05
 0003  00:00:13:07  00:00:15:16
 0004  Etc...

Speaker criteria
Should the sound be young, fresh and informal? Or should it be more formal, serious and conservative? It's important that you know what you want. And that you tell us. And this applies to style and tone, as well as the gender and age of the speaker. If there are multiple speakers, you'll obviously have to consider them all - also if they include children's voices.
