The Council of the European Union, also known as the Council of Ministers, meets in ten different configurations depending on the policy area under discussion. The Presidency of the Council rotates among the EU Member States every six months. Sweden held the Presidency of the Council during the first half of 2023. During its Presidency, up to 150 international EU meetings were hosted in Sweden, along with numerous meetings organized by government agencies and other organizations.

Professional conference interpreting

During Sweden’s Presidency of the Council of the European Union, LanguageWire, formerly Delingua, organized conference interpreting for the Swedish Government Offices at a range of meetings. These included informal meetings of the Council of Ministers, conferences, and senior official-level meetings. Interpreting was also provided to individual high-level representatives through several countries’ embassies.

The assignments involved between one and six language pairs, with as many as 12 conference interpreters working at a single meeting.
